Loyola University Maryland

Your Mark

Bright Minds, Bold Hearts: The Campaign for Loyola University Maryland honors our legacy, builds on our recent accomplishments, and strengthens the characteristics that make Loyola unique.

Through the campaign, we will do an even better job of helping students find their place in the Loyola community, shape a meaningful educational experience for themselves based on Jesuit principles, and navigate the interconnected world that awaits them after graduation.

"My experience at Loyola was a defining moment in my life." --John C. Mercer, '95

John C. Mercer, ’95, has long identified with the Jesuit philosophy of cura personalis, care for the whole person. As a student, he was a member of the men’s swimming and diving team who majored in political science and economics. His development during his four years at Loyola was equal parts physical, emotional, and intellectual.

Because he believes it made a profound impact on his own life, John is passionate about furthering Loyola’s ability to continue to focus on this balance that constitutes the education of the whole person.

That’s why he has made a gift to Bright Minds, Bold Hearts by including the University in his will. His support will benefit the Greyhounds’ swimming and diving program and the Evergreen Fund.

John’s commitment to Loyola’s student-athletes will directly impact the quality of their educational experience: “If Loyola is able to recruit a swimmer who otherwise might not have been able to attend as a result of my gift, then I will have done what I set out to do.”
